THE CAMERA







  • ground glass - glass that has had its polished surface removed by fine grinding, used to diffuse light.
  • diaphragm - reduce the aperture 
  • bellows - collapsible part of a camera or enlarger
  • sheet film - flat piece of film cut to a required size before being loaded into a camera




  • aperture - an enclosed hollow with an opening  at one end for light to entershutter - mechanical device for opening and closing the aperture of a camera lens to expose film
  • exposure - presenting a photosensitive surface to rays or light
  • depth of field - range of distance along the axis of an optical instrument
  • F-stop - setting of an adjustable lens aperture
  • focal length - distance from a focal pint of a lens or mirror to corresponding principal plane



  • mode dial - changes mode
  • power switch - turns on and off
  • flash button - turns flash on and off
  • main dial - switches options
  • shutter button - takes pictures

  • aperture button, exposure compensation button, erase button
  • live view shooting button, movie shooting - to record movies
  • quick control, direct print button
  • menu button - shows menu
  • setting - changes settings
  • cross keys - move up and down, left and right
  • playback - shows pictures
  • lock button - locks camera
  • magnify button - magnifies picture
