Photojournalism in my Future
Being in this photo journalism class has taught me how to handle a camera and use its settings. I think that the skills that I learned in here will help me be able to take much better quality pictures like at special events or family occasions. I could use my skills to capture memories. I now know how to adjust the lighting and the shutter speed whenever we're in different areas with different types of lighting. This class has helped me become really familiar with the camera and taking good pictures myself is much cheaper than hiring a photographer. My personal goal is to own my own fancy camera one day, and not just use my phone camera. Being a photographer has never been a career option for me, but I would really want to pick up photography as a hobby.

Newspaper Design Notes
- Broad Sheet - tall and skinny, narrow
- Tabloid - short, broad sheet on its side if you open it up.
- Folio - reference information (slogan, location, name, etc.)
- Front Page Elements - flag, photo, headlines, stories, lines
- Teasers - preview stories on the inside of the newspaper
- Byline - contains name and title
- Jump - shows you where to find rest of story
- Infographic - polls, questions answered by students
Front Pages of the World
1. My favorite newspaper is the one from Harlingen, TX because the cover doesn't look boring, it's very attractive and the colors, font, and pictures make it stand out from the standard newspapers.
2. My favorite headline is "More attacks planned?", referring to the Boston bombing, I like this because they didn't have to state what the event was but everybody knows that it has to do with the Boston bombing, it's a very interesting story.
3. 6 stories
4. All newspapers follow somewhat of the same format, a big spot for their newspaper name on top, followed my multiple smaller pictures and several stories in the standard newspaper font. Most times the biggest story is the most drastic story. Most are split into two or three sections.
5. Some have a big dominate picture, looking more like a magazine cover while others have a less smaller one. Some also have more colors than others. A lot of them vary with their text amount, putting a lot more stories than others.

Lenses and Photographic Vocab
I would use a telephoto lens when you have a large landscape area and you're trying to focus on the small details and you have bright lighting.
I would use a prime lens where you have low light and where you want to have fine details.
I would use a wide-angle lens when I have a lot to fit into a frame, like a big group picture.

Magazine Part II
Life Magazine. October 9, 1913
Early Magazine Covers - first modeled as a book, magazines had covers with titles and table of contents and perhaps a publication date. couldnt tell it was a magazine. small illustration for a decorative look rather than to advertise. didnt have cover lines, many had no covers at all. the article began on the first page.
Vogue, June 1936
The Poster Covers - poster cover had super memorable cover with great illustrations. artistic art dominated graphic design rather than the other photographers work that existed then. these covers were oversized, could of been wall art because it was so big. it revolved around the works of art, contained a small cover line. these poster covers appeared on magazines, didnt really explain the magazine.
Vogue, 1968
Pictures Married to Type - relied on cover lines to attract readers. began constructing a magazine cover with art mixed with cover lines. found new ways of formatting the magazine so it could all tie together. enhanced photo on cover along with putting the right sized font and text. cover lines added alot of hype to how the magazine was viewed. not crazy colors. simple fonts. pictures not overlapping. text wraps around everything. nice and organized.
Fashion September 2010
In the Forest of Words - leads to modern magazine covers, includes intense photography with many cover lines. needs a powerful photo along with powerful cover lines. have models that pose a certain way so they can put in cover lines. affects our views of language and symbols. stands out to how we view things. more text, more colors, stands out to young readers, overwheming looking.

My Favorite Cover
January 2011 - "Ryan Gosling"
Nobody embodied 2011 Leading Man more than the brash and enormously talented Ryan Gosling. In a way, we predicted his moment: Coming off a powerful performance in the indie film Blue Valentine, he had yet to fully display his range—in a comedy (Crazy, Stupid, Love), a political drama (The Ides of March), and a controversial action film (Drive) that captures the slow-boil sexiness he brings to every role. Gosling is a throwback to an old-school stardom, one that prized relaxed confidence and elegance, which is why we paired him with Mario Testino, the classiest photographer around.
This is a formal portrait of Ryan Gosling. They made a really good choice of choosing him because he obviously catches attention, for girls and probably guys also. They also made a good choice by using a white background that focused the attention on Ryan Gosling himself. The lighting is great, its not too contrasted and his beautiful blue eyes stand out. This is a simple, yet classy and formal photo. Its a great pose that really catches attention.

Choice Sheet
I will graduate from Akins in a few months, but that only marks the beginning of a new chapter. I plan on attending The University of Texas at Austin and being a Longhorn. Sadly I won't live on campus; I'll be living right at home. At UT I plan on majoring in Athletic Training, however, that's very likely to change. College hasn't even started yet but I have already changed my major a good four times. Life is a mystery to me at the moment and I have no idea where life is going to take me. Everybody wants a successful future, but that means nothing to me without happiness. Anyways, I hope that my grades continue to stay up and I'll enjoy the remaining of my senior year. Life has passed by a whole lot quicker than I thought, but soon enough, I'll be walking across that stage and done with high school.

2012 In Review
Best song of 2012 goes to Pyramids by Frank Ocean. This is a 10 minute song that's made of nothing but talent and amazingness. There are many different beats throughout the song and has different moods but all blends in very well. This album was amazing in general and Frank deserved the Grammy's of best new artist. It's the best album and definitely has many of my favorite tracks.
Avengers is the best movie of 2012, HANDS DOWN. I loved all of the Marvel movies and combining all of the heroes into one great movie was the best thing ever. It was filled with action along with comedy and I could watch this movie over and over again without getting tired of it. I'm not normally into super heroes, but The Avengers is something else that's worth my time. I highly suggest it to anybody who hasn't seen it before.
One of the most important stories of 2012 is the election. Barrack Obama wins office once again and will continue to make our country strong within the next 4 years. He will help determine how our future will turn out and do his best to make America a better place. It was a very close election, but Obama was able to come out with the win.
One of the most important people of 2012 goes to Adele. She was a new artist that impacted many lives. Her music spoke of the wonders of love and of course, heartbreaks. She attracted many fans, boys and girls, young and old. She set record breaking numbers of downloads and views of her music. She preformed at grammys and large shows. She quickly made her way up to the top and inspired others.
The biggest 2012 sports entertainment has to be the Olympics. Not every year we get to see the entire world unite into one and compete. Millions were tuned in to support their country and watch the numerous sports. This was a very popular event that definitely made a remembrance for 2012.
Favorite Photo 2012
This will always be a memorable photo of 2012 that nobody will forget. This shooting has impacted America and this is just a really sad moment for us all.
I really like this picture because its made out of people and they all come together to form a perfect image of a girl.
This image really stands out to me because it shows the actual movement of the bullet of the gun. The capturing of the effect underwater is perfect.
